Bengali cabbage prawn ghotala ghonto

I love cabbage in many ways, use them for Manchurian, Chinese noodles, some time its pakora, typical bong sabji with one small potato, sizzler, in Arabic dish and yesterday i tried it with prawns, not the usual way we bongs do but did a ghotala of mixing dried coconut, coconut water and peas

Ingredients required:
  • 1 small cabbage (cut into very fine shred), soak in cold water
  • 1 small potato (cut into large chunks but not the french fry way)
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1 medium tomato (Make paste in grinder)
  • 5 medium size prawns (I took the frozen ones)
Mustard oil (2 tsp for first frying potatoes, keep aside and the rest oil will be used for main dish)

Separately marinate prawns with little of salt n turmeric and shallow fry them both side (2mins each) and cut into chunks (R doesn't like full pieces so had to cut into chunks)

Masala required:
  • 1 tsp cumin whole
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp of grated coconut
  • 1/4 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 tsp bhaja masala (2 bay leaf, 1 tbs of shah jeera, 4-5 cardamom, 5 cloves roasted and then grind)
  • Salt and water according to requirement

Take a kadhai add 2 tbsp of oil, first fry potatoes and rest oil put cumin whole and in a bowl separately mix ginger paste, cumin , turmeric, red chilly powder mix with 2 tbsp of water), put the mix and allow it to fry till it releases oil and the raw smell of ginger is gone, then add grated coconut and coconut water and allow it to simmer for 2 mins. Then add the shredded cabbage, mix it well and then allow to simmer for 7 to 8 mins.

Then add the fried potatoes and cook it till its soft then add peas allow to simmer for another 2 mins and then add the puree, mix it well, then sim it for another 2 to 3 mins, add the cut prawn pieces cook for another 2-3 mins and switch off the gas stove and then add bhaja masala and little ghee and close the kadhai lid.

I served it with dal and roti but it tastes yumm with steamed rice.
